NOTICE OF JUDGMENT NO. 2395. (Given pursuant to section 4 of the Food and Drugs Act.) ABULTEEATION OF GELATIN. On October 1, 1912, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, acting upon a report by the Secretary of Agri- culture, filed in the District Court of the United States for said dis- trict a libel for the seizure and condemnation of one barrel contain- ing 530 pounds, more or less, of gelatin, remaining unsold in the original unbroken package and in possession of the B. Riley Hauk Supply Co., St. Louis, Mo., alleging that the product had been shipped by W. K. Jahn Co., Chicago, Ill., and transported from the State of Illinois into the State of Missouri, and charging adultera- tion in violation of the Food and Drugs Act. The product was un- labeled, except for shipping instructions, and stenciled notations, as follows: (Picture of an owl) "560." Adulteration of the product was alleged in the libel for the rea- son that it contained arsenic, in the amount of from 14 to 15 parts per million, and 230 milligrams of zinc per kilogram, which sub- stances of arsenic and zinc rendered the product injurious to health, and were added poisonous and deleterious ingredients. On November 20, 1912, the said W. K. Jahn Co., claimant, having consented to a decree, judgment of condemnation and forfeiture was entered, and it was further ordered that the product should be re- leased and delivered to said claimant upon condition that the barrel containing it should be labeled " for technical purposes only," and the execution of bond in the sum of $500, in conformity with section 10 of the Act, and the payment of all costs of the proceedings.
