NOTICE OF JUDGMENT NO. 2593. (Given pursuant to section 4 of the Food and Drugs Act.) V. S. v. Hulbert E. Nead. Pea of guilty. Fine, $25 and costs. ADULTERATION OF MILK. At the November, 1912, term of the District Court of the United States for the District of Indiana the grand jurors of the United States within and for said district, acting upon a report by the Sec- retary of Agriculture, returned an indictment against Hubert E. Nead, Pierceville, Ind., charging shipment by said defendant, in violation of the Food and Drugs Act, on May 28, 1912, from the State of Indiana into the State of Ohio of a quantity of milk which was adulterated. The product was labeled on can: " H. E. Nead, Pierceville, Ind. French Bros., Cincinnati, O." Analysis of a sample of the product by the Bureau of Chemistry of this Department showed the following results: Fat (by Babcock), 3.2 per cent; total solids (by drying), 10.91 per cent; solids not fat (by drying), 7.71 per cent; nitrates in the milk, positive test; preservatives, none. Adulteration of the product was charged in the indictment for the reason that a certain substance, etc wit, water, had been mixed therewith so as to reduce and lower its quality and strength. On February 25, 1913, the defendant entered a plea of guilty to the indictment and the court imposed a fine of $25 and costs. B. T. GALLOWAY, Acting Secretary of Agriculture. WASHINGTON, D.
