6735. Adulteration of shell eggs. IT. S. * * * -v. Ormond J. Coon and linelen E. Payne (Coon & Co.). Pleas of guilty. Fine, ^10 and eosts. (P. & D. No. 8023. I. S. No. 10510-m.) On March 20, 1917, the United States attorney for the District of Kansas, acting upon a report by the Secretary of Agriculture, filed in the District Court of the United States for said district an information against Ormond J. Coon and Lucien B. Payne, copartners, trading as Coon & Co., Fiat, Kans., alleging shipment by said defendants, in violation of the Food and Drugs Act, on or about August 16, 1916, from the State of Kansas into the State of Missouri, of a quantity of eggs which were adulterated. Examination of 5 cases, containing 1,800 eggs, by the Bureau of Chemistry of this department showed 180 eggs, or 10 per cent, to be inedible and decom- posed. Adulteration of the article was alleged in the information for the reason that it consisted in part of a filthy, decomposed, and putrid animal substance. On May 7, 1917, the defendants entered pleas of guilty to the information, and the court imposed a fine of $10 and costs. C. F. MARVIN, Acting Secretary of Agriculture.
