20753. Adulteratlon of canned salmon. U. S. v. 59S Cases of Canned Salmon. Default decree of condemnation, forfeiture, and destruc- tion. (F. & D. no. 29532. Sample no. 21010-A.) This case involved an interstate shipment of canned salmon that was in part decomposed. On November 23, 1932, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, acting upon a report by the Secretary of Agriculture, filed in the District Court of the United States a libel praying seizure and condemna- tion of 598 cases of canned salmon at South Philadelphia, Pa., alleging that the article had been shipped by the F. A. Gosse Co., Seattle, Wash., on or about September 30, 1932, and had been transported from the State of Washmgton into the State of Pennsylvania, and charging adulteration in violation of the Food and Drugs Act. The article was labeled in part: "Pink Rose Brand * * * Pink Vacuum Packed Salmon * * * Distributed by F. A. Gosse Company, Seattle, Wash." It was alleged in the libel that the article was adulterated in that it consisted in part of a decomposed and putrid animal substance. On February 28, 1933, no claimant appearing of record, judgment of con- demnation and forfeiture was entered, and it was ordered by the court that the product be destroyed by the United States marshal. R. G. TTJGWELL, Acting Secretary of Agriculture.
