27469. Adulteration of crab meat. U. S. v. 2 Barrels, et al., of Crab Meat. Default decrees of condemnation and destruction. (F. & D. nos. 39857, 39912, 39921. Sample nos. 21577-C, 50616-C, 50618-C.) These cases involved crab meat that contained filth. On June 4, 10, and 11, 1937, the United States attorneys for the District of Maryland and the Northern District of Illinois, acting upon reports by the Secretary of Agriculture, filed in their respective district courts libels praying seizure and condemnation of seven barrels and two boxes of crab meat at Balti- more, Md., and 72 pound tins of crab meat at Chicago, Ill., alleging that it had been shipped in interstate commerce on or about June 1 and June 7, 1937, by the St. Mary Seafood Co. from Morgan City, La., and charging adulteration in violation of the Food and Drugs Act. The article was alleged to be adulterated in that it consisted in whole or in part of a filthy animal substance. On June 15 and July 15, 1937, no claimant having appeared, judgments of condemnation were entered and the product was ordered destroyed. M. L. WILSON, Acting Secretary of Agriculture.
