1915. Adulteration of cookies. U. S. v. 644 Cartons of Assorted Cookies and 10 Cases of Chocolate Chip Cookies. Default decree of condemnation and destruction. (F. D. C. Nos. 3951, 3952. Samples Nos. 24645-E, 24647-E.) This product contained rodent hairs. On March 11, 1941, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania filed a libel against 644 cartons of assorted cookies and 10 eases each containing 12 cartons of chocolate chip cookies at Philadelphia, Pa., alleg- ing that the article had been shipped in interstate commerce on or about February 10 and 18, 1941, by Hillman Cookie Co. from Baltimore, Md., and charging that it was adulterated in that it consisted wholly or in part of a filthy substance, and in that it might have been prepared under insanitary con- ditions whereby it might have become contaminated with filth. The article was labeled in part: "Freihofer's Cookies Black Walnut"; and "Hillman's Chocolate Chip Cookies." On May 19, 1941, no claimant having appeared, judgment of condemnation was entered and the product was ordered destroyed.
