2240. Adulteration of canned field peas. XT. S. v. 88 Cases of Canned Field Peas with Snaps. Default decree of condemnation and destruction. (F. D. C. No. 3366; Sample No. 20495-E.) Examination showed that this product contained insect larvae and eggs. On November 18, 1940, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of South Carolina filed a libel against 38 cases, each containing 24 No. 2 cans, of field peas with snaps at Columbia, S. C., alleging that the article had been shipped on or about October 3, 1940, by R. O. Kelley Cannery from Mitchell, Ga.; and charging that it was adulterated in that it consisted in whole or in part of a filthy substance. The article was labeled in part: "Kelley's Best * * * Georgia Field Peas with Snaps." . On June 19,1941, no claimant having appeared, judgment of condemnation was entered and the product was ordered destroyed.
