3830. Adulteration of candy. U. S. v. 166 Boxes of Candy. Default decree of con¬ demnation and destruction. (F. D. C. No. 7109. Sample No. 48408-B.) This product contained fragments of insects and of hair resembling those of rodents. On March 30,1942 the United States attorney for the Eastern District of South Carolina filed a libel against 166 boxes of candy at Sumter, S. C.* alleging that the article had been shipped in interstate commerce on or about March 17, 1942, by the United Candy Co. from Charlotte, N. C.; and charging that it was adulter- ated in that it consisted in whole or in part of a filthy substance, and in that it had been prepared under insanitary conditions whereby it might have become contaminated with filth. . On July 20,1942, no claimant having appeared, judgment of condemnation was . entered and the product was ordered destroyed.
